In Depth Photo Illustration

This is a Realistic Image. Its interesting because its real life with added features. The point of this photo is to add real life to the people who seem to be just starting a life together. I like this image because it gives the artist a chacne to add what they think life would be like for the two.

This is a composite photo. It takes different photos and places them together to make one complete photo. I like how the photo has "grown up" items and places the "baby" symbolizing how children want to grow up so fast.

This is a staged photo. The candles were stage to make out the 9/11 and were photographed. I like this photo because the candles add a symbolic meaning to the date they make out.

This is a photo made into art. The photographer added touches to the photo to make it look like it was drawn instead of from a camera. I like the detail that the artist added into the photo.

Photo Illustration

In this photo they artist used Kermit, a well known cartoon as the main focus. Using Kermit was a great idea, because it was easier for a person to be quickly attracted to the article. The artist also added photos of other celebrities that were "left handed" which brought more attention to the article.

Action Photography

I learned that zone focus is when you firgure out what the action is that you are shooting. Its about waiting for the right moment for it to come to you. I also learned about Panning which is following the motion with the lens. Shutter speed also has to be set to the right settings depending on the brightness outside and the actions speed. When waiting for the pause in action you have to steady the camera on a certain spot and wait for the right moment to shoot.

The Photo I found most appealing was photo 9. This photo used outstanding lighting which effected the photo in a good way. There were also many shapes and angles in this photo that drew attention to the photo. This photo was in great focus and captured alot of details.

Parks Portrait Critique

This portrait is candid and environmental. This photo is meant to bring awareness to the violence gangs cause. The boys in the photo standing still, in the dark gives a mellow and sorrowful feeling.

Cover History

Early Magazine Covers Poster Cover Pictures Married to Type

In the Forest of Words

Cover types:

1. Early Magazine Covers- In these magazines, the covers were usually used as table of contents. the magazines were made looking more like books instead of magazines

2. The Poster Cover-The covers of these magazines were made largely as if to be "hung on a wall". Instead of photographs on the covers they used illustrations or sketches from photographs.

3. Pictures Married to Type- These covers consisted of Large titles and the main focus of the magazine overlapping the title. There are also headlines surrounding the model on the covers. The models were usually placed in some sort of pose for the cover.

4. In the Forest of Words- On these covers the headlines were meant to stand out more. So they were placed to overlap the model on the cover.

Ethical Beliefs

Photojournalist Ethics should be situational because it really does just depend on the types of changes that are being made. It is not always wrong to make little changes in a photo. If you make drastic changes, for example adding certain object such as a pen or even a flag in the backgroud, that would not be a reasonable change. It gives off different ideas about the photo.

There is truth in candid taken photos, but i do not believe there is truth in posed photos. When taking posed pictures, there is just emotion in the photo that the person is just doing for the camera, but if caught off guard or in candid images, there is truth, you can determine how the person is feeling because they have no time to think of an emotion and show it!

As a photographer I have just taken out little white spots from the photo. I havent really tried to make my photos something else. I think it is important that the news defined ethical standards because photographers need to know their limits and what changes are allowed to be made without creating lies.

Dove Film

In the film they changed the woman's neck height, they lifted her eyebrows, drew more attention to her eyes, lowered her shoulders, and thinned out her cheeks. Dove was giving examples of how their products work this is ok with fashion photography because its what the people look for. But in photojournalism, we look for truth and candid moments. Fashion Photography does have its negatives though, it causes the audience to think that by having the same products, they can look just as beautiful. The photos are showing a made up human being.

Ethics

The article was explaining how the University doctored a photo and made it seem like there was a black person in the photo. they did this to make their school seem like it had a racial diversity. It is wrong to make a change like this because it is not honest to the public. And the school is just trying to gain publicity but in the wrong way!

Unethical Manipulation

The changes made to this photo were unethical because they really made no difference. The teeth of the woman could barely be seen so there was no reason to mess with them.

Ethical Manipulation

This was an ethical manipulation to the photo becaue the pole in the picture on the first picture made a difference after taking the pole out there was not any attention drawn above the girls head.

Repetition

The men all in a row reading is the repetition of this photo. The fact that all men were in a row in GREEN caught my attention.

Friday, August 18, 2007RememberedSoldiers attend a memorial service at Fort Lewis in Washington for four Stryker soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, who were killed while in serving in Iraq.

The blue squares continuously in a row, and getting cut off is the repetition in this photo. The fact that they are squares and go at an angle is what is appauling in this photo.

The lines in this photo going in rows is the repetition of this photo. The fact that they make your eyes go crazy when you stare at the photo, is what draws my attention to this photo.
