Ethical Beliefs

Photojournalist Ethics should be situational because it really does just depend on the types of changes that are being made. It is not always wrong to make little changes in a photo. If you make drastic changes, for example adding certain object such as a pen or even a flag in the backgroud, that would not be a reasonable change. It gives off different ideas about the photo.

There is truth in candid taken photos, but i do not believe there is truth in posed photos. When taking posed pictures, there is just emotion in the photo that the person is just doing for the camera, but if caught off guard or in candid images, there is truth, you can determine how the person is feeling because they have no time to think of an emotion and show it!

As a photographer I have just taken out little white spots from the photo. I havent really tried to make my photos something else. I think it is important that the news defined ethical standards because photographers need to know their limits and what changes are allowed to be made without creating lies.

Dove Film

In the film they changed the woman's neck height, they lifted her eyebrows, drew more attention to her eyes, lowered her shoulders, and thinned out her cheeks. Dove was giving examples of how their products work this is ok with fashion photography because its what the people look for. But in photojournalism, we look for truth and candid moments. Fashion Photography does have its negatives though, it causes the audience to think that by having the same products, they can look just as beautiful. The photos are showing a made up human being.

Ethics

The article was explaining how the University doctored a photo and made it seem like there was a black person in the photo. they did this to make their school seem like it had a racial diversity. It is wrong to make a change like this because it is not honest to the public. And the school is just trying to gain publicity but in the wrong way!

Unethical Manipulation

The changes made to this photo were unethical because they really made no difference. The teeth of the woman could barely be seen so there was no reason to mess with them.

Ethical Manipulation

This was an ethical manipulation to the photo becaue the pole in the picture on the first picture made a difference after taking the pole out there was not any attention drawn above the girls head.

Men These days!

Smart guy that Charlie is! Charlie is sitting in the tub relaxed as he washes the dishes for his hardworking wife. The men these days have life so easy!

Bill Gates Coffin

Fellow worshipers of Bill Gates begin to work on his coffin. He was left with tons of techonology, he'll never be bored in the afterlife.

Bicycle Locks

So much for those bicycle locks, 12 year old Tyler's bicycle tire is sitting alone. When Tyler returned to his bicycle after having locked it up, he found the tire all alone.

Repetition

The men all in a row reading is the repetition of this photo. The fact that all men were in a row in GREEN caught my attention.

The blue squares continuously in a row, and getting cut off is the repetition in this photo. The fact that they are squares and go at an angle is what is appauling in this photo.

The lines in this photo going in rows is the repetition of this photo. The fact that they make your eyes go crazy when you stare at the photo, is what draws my attention to this photo.

Sugar Hill

A: She used candid moments, and cptured moments where alot of emotion was expressed. She also developed images that were clear. There were a few photos where there were images that were just taken but didnt really have a spot in the slideshow. It was unfocused and I was unsure of what she was trying to capture.

B: The fact that there were moments of sorrow and a woman in her deathbed as well as a woman with a baby, added true meaning to the slideshow. Those images were candid once again, which made me belive the pain and sadness the people in the pictures were going through.

C: The Police Video was interesting to me. Many times people are picked on for just simply standing around out side, and the cops are never sure of the background of the individual. Words are exchanged, and anger is let loose, this leads to the officer being angry with the situation and hurting the other in some way.

Shooting Experience

It was hard for me to get close to people and be "in their face" especially when some were camera shy, so I had to look for interesting people and not make it known that I was taking a picture. When I went into the Physics class, there was alot going on and older kids that were mature enough to ignore the camera. So that made it easier to shoot.

I found it confusing trying to figure out if the camera was focused or not, when I looked into the lens everything looked clear but when i looked at the numbers I didnt know if they were right or not, luckily I had experienced photographers with me so I asked them.

When I was in the Theater class during their warm up excercises, I captured a picture of three girls in a line I tried to make it like The Rule of Thirds.

After Printing Post

I first cleaned my negatives and let it soak for a minute. Afterwards I placed it in the enlarger and made sure it was focused right, and tested the time for the light to hit the film. After finding a good time for my photo to come out looking just fine, I placed it in the enlarger and let the line shine for 7 seconds. Then I placed the film in the developer for a minute, then the stop bath for 15 seconds, then the fixer for 2 minutes. Afterwards the image began to appear clearly and it was placed in the bath for 5 minutes. =]

Best Two Exposures

Photo Negative Number 8: This photo was the best picture i captured. It was focued, and caught unexpected expressions.
Photo Negative Number 11: This photo was caught in the middle of everyone focusing on their task. There were no faces shown but you could tell there was action going on.

Negatives Problems

There were a few water spots on my negatives, but other than that i think there is only one picture that wasn't completley focused.

Filling the Frame

This photo is filled the most with interesting images. There is fire which makes it interesting for one, and there are also two young men showing interest in the experiment they are involved in.

The Best Emotion

In this photo you can see the concentration in the man's face. He's showing how important his task is to him. There's a lot of dedication.

The Story

This photo gives the best story of the girl paying attention in class, studying while her peers behind her are playing around. Students often get frustrated or distracted when this goes on in class, in this photo you can see the concentration.

Pinhole Image (dislike)

I did not like this Pinhole image because it was blurry. I couldnt tell what it was. Im guessing the light was on the image for too long?

Pinhole Images

I liked this pinhole image because it was very well centered, and the image was clear enough.

Contest

I liked how the reflection from the mirror was in the picture perfectly and the black and white made the picture much more attractive.
